A vivid history of a boy growing up in a small Arkansas coal mining town, between the years 1939 and 1954, and also the history, folklore and tales of the town. . Mr. Primm not only includes a vast treasure trove of history of an era, but also paints a verbal picture of a unique culture which has now vanished from America. His stories, some poignant, some tragic, and some humorous just add to all the other things that make this a book well worth reading. Older readers wil find many things to reminisce about, while younger ones will learn that life before television and technology was just as fulfilling as life is today. Several who previewed this book said such things as "Fascinating, I couldn't put it down," "I read the entire book without stopping, and plan to read it again," and "I've already read it twice, and plan to read it again." Must reading for all those who wish to see a vivid picture of a small segment of Americana that has now slipped away.

Not a very good book, at least for me. It drags and I lost interest in just a few chapters. I should have kept reading to find out the redeeming factors, but I just could not stay with it.

An enjoyable read of the middle years of the twentieth century in rural Arkansas.
I very much enjoyed the book, Memories Of Alix Tales Of A Culture Long Gone. It is well written and extremely interesting. I can strongly recommend the book. Jerry is interesting to read and the book has a view that makes it difficult to put down. I hope Jerry will write additional books.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It is crazy how the world has changed. Sometimes I wish that this world was like it was back then. I love reading about my ancestors as well! This is a fascinating, well written book that would put memories and smiles on readers faces!!
The stories shared in this memior give voice to the history and experience of life in a small rural town. If you have ever driven the "scenic route" and passed through such a town on your way to somewhere else, this magical book opens the doors to the lives of those who lived there, once upon a time. Thank you Gerald Primm for sharing your stories. I hope this provides a positive and encouraging example that we all have a story to share.
Primm's vivid account of life in a rural Arkansas mining town in the 1930s - 1950s is told with with a brilliant mix of humor and sensitivity. In "Memories of Alix Tales of a Culture Long Gone," I was mentally transported to a way of life that is truly missing today, and there I was allowed to experience the joys and hardships of those who called Alix, AR home.

This book is one of those rare page-turners that will keep its readers engaged from cover to cover. Primm is clearly a master story-teller!
